Reading: We started our final class novel this week, Number the Stars. It takes place in Denmark during World War II. It's about a young girl whose family helps their Jewish friends escape the Nazi regime. It's a gentle introduction to this difficult topic, and an absolutely beautiful story. Ask your kids to bring home their books to read it with you! Talk to them about WWII history and any connections or knowledge you have.
Writing: We are researching the events of the Revolutionary War, aiming toward writing a blog with three sections: an "all about the war" section, a historical fiction narrative, and an "all about... (a specific event of the War)" section. Ask your historians what they learned about the War this week.
Social Studies: Next week we're open for business! Your kids have been developing products, advertisements, and business signs all week. They'll have one more class period on Monday to work on products, and they'll do a mock set-up in our room on Tuesday. The mall is open to the K-5 shoppers on Wednesday and Thursday. Ask your entrepreneurs how their business is going.

Math: This week we practiced adding and subtracting fractions that are greater than 1 whole, requiring us to "borrow" when we subtracted. For example: (1 and 2/5) - (4/5). The kids learned how to show their work on a number line and using number bonds. Ask your kids to show you how a problem like this can be demonstrated on a number line.
Science: Your kids are enjoying a unit with Mr. Lukehart, studying life science. Ask them about what they're up to!
