Week of 5/13/19 - 5/17/19

Writing:  We are still researching the events of the Revolutionary War, aiming toward writing a blog with three sections: an "all about the war" section, a historical fiction narrative, and an "all about... (a specific event of the War)" section. Ask your historians what they learned about the War this week.

Social Studies:  The mall was a great success!  Your kids did a fantastic job setting up their businesses, marketing during the mall, and revising their plans to improve their store layouts the second day.  I'm so proud of them!  Next week we'll review profits and reflect on their work.  Ask your entrepreneurs how their business sales went!  What went well?  What would they have changed.

Math: We wrapped up our VERY long fraction unit this week!  The kids worked diligently for months through a progression of fraction concepts, ultimately putting the skills together in various ways to solve word problems.  They did great!  Next week we start decimals.

Science:  Your kids are enjoying a unit with Mr. Lukehart, studying life science.  Ask them about what they're up to!

Miscellaneous:
  • If you haven't been mystery reader for your child, there's still plenty of opportunity!  The kids love it when you surprise them!  If you can't come in, send us a video of yourself reading, or invite another family member or friend.  You can reach out to me about a time that works best.

  • The spring SLAM is Monday night at 7:30!  Spanish, Art, Library, and Music will be showcasing all of its work.  Students should line up at 7:15 in the gym.  Artwork  will be on display all around the building from 5-8 pm so make sure you save some time before or after your child's show to see their work on display. Please have your students wear their "Where I belong" t-shirt (or another Whittier or blue shirt), comfortable pants and comfortable shoes for the show
