Reading: The kids synthesized their research on the events that lead to the Revolutionary War. They had a choice of showing their notes through timelines, maps, graphs, cartoons, diaries, or news articles. Their work is so clever! Check out a photo or two of the gallery walk in our photo album.
We continued with Edward Tulane, our One Book, One School novel, reading to Chapter 10. Edward has been separated from his first family and acquainted with his second family. He's about to lose them, too! Along the way he's already learned some lessons about love, friendship, and ego. Ask your kids to re-read a few chapters with you (they're short!). Ask them what lessons Edward has learned. Ask him how Abilene's family treated him differently than Nellie and Lawrence.
Social Studies: We kicked off our Economics unit this week! Our entrepreneurs met in the auditorium to watch a clip from the show Shark Tank in preparation for learning about how to grow a business. Today we learned about businesses, consumers, wants, and needs. Talk to your kids about how you as a family make spending decisions (what stores you shop at, how you decide to spend money, etc). Also, if you happen to have extra craft supplies, extra cardboard jewelry boxes, toilet paper rolls, or other craft-y type things laying around, send 'em in! Sometimes kids use them as packaging for their products, or even for the products themselves.

Math: We've moved into the second half of our fractions unit. This week we learned about using various models to represent the addition and. multiplication of basic fractions. We used number lines, tape diagrams, and number bonds. Ask your kids to draw a picture or use a number bond to represent an equation like 6 - (2/5).
Science: Your kids are enjoying a unit with Mr. Lukehart, studying life science. Ask them about what they're up to!
