IAR: Those who took the IAR did a wonderful job. They really tried hard and kept positive attitudes. Your notes made every one of them smile and feel comforted. Thank you! Ask your kids how the test went. What was hard? What was familiar?
Reading: The kids got their new reading partners and we began previewing texts about events that led to the Revolutionary War. The focus of their partnership was to preview the text, then chunk sections of text to discuss. Talk to your kids about how you process information when you read, even things like directions, emails, and recipes. Do you go back and reread? Do you break it into sections? Do you preview using section headings and titles?
Writing: The kids presented their projects all week long during writing and they were FANTASTIC. I think this honestly might be the best year ever for presentations! I'm so proud of the hard work they put forth. We have there more to enjoy next week! Ask your kids about their classmates' presentations. Whose person did they find interesting? Whose presentation did they like and why?

Math: We learned how to make equivalent fractions (3/4 = 6/8) by dividing. Essentially, we grouped the pieces together. Like multiplication, the area model scaffolded the concept, only this time the size of the pieces got bigger, and the number of pieces decreased. Ask your kids to show you how to use a rectangular area model and division to show that 1/3 is equivalent to 2/6, 3/9, or 4/12.
