Week of 5/26/15 - 5/29/15

What a week!  We had started our 10 day balloon countdown on Monday and it's been a little bit of extra fun each day.  Today the kids' iPads were collected, please look for a white receipt and please pay if you owe.  Congrats to all of our kids who participated in the Talent Show!  We had a fantastic day, today, and the kids were a wonderful audience even with Mrs. Roskos working on stage.  Way to go!  Don't forget to bring a sack lunch, comfortable shoes, and appropriate dress for Monday's field trip to the Ice Skating Rink.

Reading: We continued our read-aloud novel this week titled Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library.  It is an adventurous narrative about a 12 year old boy who participates in the new town library's invitation-only lock-in.  In order to get out, he must play his cards right in Mr. Lemoncello's most recent board game.   This read-aloud has already been a fun way to close out reading this year!   Ask your kids about what they'd like to read this summer!

Writing: We are wrapping up one final writing cycle for this year and our kiddos picked some really fun topics.  Their writing challenge from me was to choose "something" new that they haven't done this year:  a new point of view, a new genre, a new type of character, a new writing technique like personification.   Ask your child about what they chose to write as their final published piece this year.

4th Grade Math: This week went over our test from last week.  Many of the students did very well!  We continued with our U.S. measurement unit for a few days this week.  We also took a Moby Max reassessment so the students review concepts they need to over the summer. One Friday we played a year end Jeopardy game.  We had a lot of fun with it!  Today was our last day for math.  Don't forget to practice math over the summer!  Students will be getting a review packet and blank time tests plus you can go on Moby Max!

Social Studies:   We finished learning about the U.S. Government and briefly covered the Illinois' Government.  Our final social studies test will be an open note test on a google document next week.

Science: This trimester, our scientists are studying with Mr. Lukehart. They'll be learning about Ecosystems throughout an exciting unit during which they'll develop experiments using mealworms and build a live terrarium and aquarium! Ask your kids about what they planted, grew, or added to their ecosystem.
