This week was full of excitement as everyone counted down to Thursday (Halloween). I know the students were happy to dress up, parade outside, and have time to socialize together.
Next week is another exciting week for us. Our fifth graders will be leaving for Camp Edwards on Wednesday morning. Thank you to Mrs. Crane for being a chaperone from our class. Although Mrs. Roskos and I won't be there, the other teachers will be helping with our class and looking out for them. I'm sure everyone will have a wonderful time. We can't wait to hear stories. Here is a link to the letter given out today: Camp Edwards information
Our fourth graders will be having special programs next Wednesday - Friday to make their week special. We will have guest speakers on Wednesday and Thursday plus on Friday we will travel to Brooks to see Annie.
Here is a slideshow from our Halloween party.
Have a wonderful week-end!

Reading: In reading this week we continued looking at vocabulary and how words help us understand the meaning of a writing piece. We looked at many different poems and stories. We also started our work on Main Idea and details. We looked at a writing piece about a shortage of pumpkins in Texas and found the main idea and details in that story.
Writing: We have begun our final expository piece for this unit. The students worked on two planners to help them with their thoughts. After completing both sheets, they will be able to organize their thoughts for their writing. Some of the students have started their rough drafts and others will begin next week.

4th Grade Math: I was very please with our math test results. We prepared for the test on Monday and Tuesday. Our math test was Wednesday and everyone is bringing it home today. Please sign the test and return it to me on Monday.
Science: Our electricity unit is continuing this week. We learned how electricians draw pictures and what conductors/ insulators are in a circuit. Ask your student how we did our conductor/insulator experiment.

Miscellaneous: A huge thank you goes out to our fantastic Whittier PTO for the generous classroom donation! We put the money to good use on a variety of items this year: math curriculum supplements for Common Core, reading notebooks for every student in the class, a much-needed pencil sharpener, and a few new books! We're grateful for the continued support and hard work by our PTO.
