Dear Parents,

Another great week was had by everyone!  A few reminders for the coming week!   Everyone is scheduled to meet with me for conferences.  Please let me know f you didn't get your reminder email from me.   I will send you your time.  Students will have early dismissal from school on Thursday and Friday. Please plan according with your children!  I look forward to seeing everyone at conferences.

October 16th is our Whittier Wildcat Run!  Please start collecting money.

Have a wonderful week-end,
Leslie Weiss

Reading: This week we finished the unit on poetry, prose, and drama.  We read many stories and decided which was poetry, prose, and drama.   We then began looking at pictures and charts in books and poems.  We used the story and illustration to understand the author's purpose.

Writing:  I have really enjoyed reading everyone's personal narratives! We are all typing our personal narratives.  Since some students have finished typing their narratives, we have begun writing scary stories for a newspaper contest.  Most people were excited to write a scary story!

4th Grade Math:   We have continued working on place value. We learned about rounding to the nearest thousand, ten thousand, and hundred thousand in our head.  Now we have used the number line for rounding and tried to do it mentally.  ALl students should have brought home their midpoint assessment this week.

Science:  In science we continued our Magnetism unit.  We experimented with magnetic items and non-magnetic items.  We learned about how magnets attract and repel with each other.  We also learn about magnetic force and how strong that force actually can be!  It was very fun to see how a non-magnetic items worked with magnets!

5th Grade Math: Check out Mrs. Maddsen's website and newsletter for updates: http://www.op97.org/swennerberg/
