It was nice to see everyone at conferences this week! Thanks for joining me to discuss your child's progress. We had a very busy week with fieldtrips, assemblies and an Opera performance, but as always, managed to pack in the learning opportunities.
Writing: The kids really outdid themselves for this round of publishing. Their work overall is much improved: the focus and organization is stronger, the attention to detail and support is specific, and the creativity with word choice, topic and plot twists is greater. If you haven't seen your child's writing on the Wall, be sure to ask them about what they published!

Reading: Our launch of Edward Tulane was a great success. I've been encouraging your kids to read with you at home at night, so feel free to prompt them. The chapters are REALLY short and the bookmarks that each child received has our reading schedule. We had a beautiful discussion about a quote in the book that comments on heartbreak. The kids expressed their opinions about the quote, did they agree or disagree that life is full of heartbreak? Talk with your children about their opinions on this quote (it's located before chapter one), as well as their opinions on Edward.
4th Grade Math: Next week we'll start Unit 6: Division, Map Reference & Measures of Angles. It's a BIG unit full of difficult concepts, so I'll keep you posted on strategies you can use to help at home.
