This week started and ended in the blink of an eye! We enjoyed our read-a-thon/ pj celebration, a fantastic presentation by the Cook County Farm Bureau (Agriculture in the Classroom), a field trip to the Chicago Wolves game, our Secret Snowman/ winter party, and the holiday sing.
Have a wonderful holiday break- warm wishes from our families to yours!
Reading: Frozen Stiff continues to have us on the edge of our seats. Every time I end a chapter the kids spontaneously and genuinely groan with disappointment that we're done reading. It's a blast. We're taking the time to find and talk about the good writing techniques, like using foreshadowing, cliffhangers, similes, and imagery. We're also talking a lot about plot development and character reactions, as well as spending time summarizing. Ask your child about what is happening in Frozen Stiff- what prediction do they make about the next chapter? Ask your child about his/ her December reading goal- how are they trying to accomplish it?
Math: This week we continued to learn different strategies for division and division with remainders, including showing our work with arrays, an area model, and long division. We also took our weekly math facts timed tests. Ask your child to show you an educreations video! Ask your child what fact family he/ she is working on in the timed tests.
Social Studies: We finished our Book Creator projects on the Northeast this week. It'll be fun to see how they turned out! Ask your child what he/ she is most proud of about this most recent project.
Science: This week our students started their next science unit, magnetism from Mrs. Darley. They enjoyed having a new teacher and a new unit to start! Ask your child what they learned this week!
