Dear Parents,
It was nice to have a full week and get back to routines after winter break and the cold days! This week we finished our MAP testing and you should be getting the winter results in a few weeks. Everyone was very excited when we returned from lunch on Friday and saw the new IPAD cart! The students will be learning about how to use the IPADS from Mrs. Applebey, Mrs. Roskos, and myself. After those lessons, we will begin the IPAD rollout. Watch for information about parent meetings.
I have so enjoyed working with all of the students in Room 303. I feel very lucky to continue to work with them in the coming weeks for Social Studies and 5th grade math. Thank you for all of the support.
Sincerely,
Leslie Weiss

Reading: Since winter break we have been working on setting and characters in a story. We read plays from our Treasures books and concluded with reading a story Ranita. Later in this week we then read the Lorax and saw original movie. We compared the two stories and how they are different in a story book and a movie.
Writing: After winter break we talked about all of the fun things everyone did during our time off. We generated a list of ideas the students could write about for a personal narrative and then discussed how we narrow down a topic to write a short story. Everyone has begun to write their rough draft of their personal narrative. There are so many different story ideas!
4th Grade Math: We continued to work on long division the last two weeks and then moved onto two digit times two digit multiplication. There were three different methods taught to help the students find the method that works best for them. We went over how to use the area model, partial products model, and traditional or two-part partial products method. On Tuesday, they students will be going over a study guide for the Unit 2 test. The test will be on Wednesday.
Science: In science we have been learning about the rain forests. We discussed what we already knew about the rainforest and then started a research project. Everyone worked in groups to learn about their question and create a poster board. We shared them on Friday (Mrs. Madsen's Class will share them in a week) and learned a lot from each other. The class will start Ecosystems next!
