Oh my goodness, we have a class of hams and future celebrities! If your kids haven't told you about our photography escapades this week, be sure and ask! Our photographer for class pictures on Tuesday was a riot, telling us to "work it." Ask your kids about their celebrity smiles vs. fake smiles vs. awkward smiles.
4th Grade Math: We started Unit 2 (Using Numbers and Organizing Data) by reviewing equivalent names for numbers, place value, and mental math (adding/ subtracting double digit numbers). The kids will receive a weekly "Rock your Reading Work Plan" (a fancy name for a simple planning sheet!). This work plan will keep them aware of the skills we're focusing on as well as help them manage their time and work load. Most of the work and reading will be done in class, but sometimes I may assign a page or two for homework.
We're just wrapping up our novel, The View From Saturday. Next week we'll begin our short project. Ask your kids about how the plot has developed, or who their favorite character is and why.
Social Studies: Check out Ms. Wennerberg's website and newsletter for updates: http://www.op97.org/swennerberg/
Science: The kids developed and executed their entire experiment this week! Together with their partner, they created a question about mealworms, a hypothesis, materials, a step-by-step procedure, and a chart for data. Then they carried out their investigation, recorded their results, and wrote a conclusion based on their evidence. Ask your kids how their experiments went!
